Getting set up

Restock needs three things from you before it can draft and send a purchase order. The onboarding wizard walks you through them, and this is the same list.

  1. Email settings. Add your SMTP details under Settings, then Email. Restock sends purchase orders from your own address rather than a shared one, which is much better for deliverability with suppliers. You can send a test message from the same screen.
  2. Supplier email addresses. Restock creates supplier records automatically from the vendor field on your Shopify products, but it cannot know their email addresses. Add them under Suppliers. Approval stays blocked for a given supplier until theirs is filled in.
  3. Sales history. Forecasting needs real sales data. Restock reads up to 12 months of order history when you install it. A brand new store, or one with very few orders, will produce few recommendations or none at all. That is deliberate. We would rather show you nothing than suggest you spend money based on a guess.

Common questions

I have installed Restock but there are no recommendations

Two likely reasons. Either the initial backfill is still running, which can take a while on a large catalogue, or your store does not yet have enough sales history for a confident forecast. Check the Data Health screen, which shows when each type of data was last synced.

Why can I not approve a purchase order?

Approval is blocked when your SMTP settings are missing, or when the supplier on that specific order has no email address recorded. The app tells you which of the two is the problem. Fix it and the Approve button becomes available.

I approved an order by mistake

You have 60 seconds to cancel before anything is sent. Open the purchase order and choose Cancel send. After that window the email has gone to your supplier and you will need to contact them directly.

My inventory numbers look wrong

Restock updates from Shopify webhooks in near real time and runs a full reconciliation every night that detects and repairs any drift. If something still looks off, you can trigger a manual reconciliation from the Data Health screen. If it persists, email us with the SKU and we will investigate.

Are the forecasts generated by AI?

No. All forecasting mathematics is deterministic and runs on our own servers, which means the same inputs always produce the same outputs and we can explain every number. We use a language model only to write the plain English explanation next to a recommendation and to draft purchase order email text. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

What happens to my customers' data?

Nothing, because we never collect it. Restock stores quantities sold and timestamps, not customer names, email addresses or shipping addresses. Section 5 of the Privacy Policy covers this in detail.

How do I change plan or cancel?

Both are on the Billing screen inside the app. Cancelling stops future charges and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Uninstalling the app deletes all of your Restock data within 30 seconds.
